Henning Sehmsdorf was named adjunct faculty at Huxley College of the Environment, Western Washington University in 2006. He lectured on agro-ecology in a course taught by Professor Gigi Berardi, Chair, Department of Environmental Studies and currently Resilient Farms Project director, and he hosted her students for on-farm classes.
2010 Travel Course in Sustainable Agriculture to Switzerland, Italy
In August 2010, Professor Berardi and Dr.Sehmsdorf offer the following for-credit Intensive Short Course in Sustainable Agriculture in Italy and at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland.
Coursework includes:
- Identifying and utilizing frameworks of analysis that apply to integrated ecoagriculture research;
- Intensive food production study of biodynamic agriculture and agro-biodiversity conservation in Switzerland;
- Critical studies in food cultures, and gastronomic sciences and society in Bra and Pollenzo, Italy;
- Holistic farm systems and traditional strategies to protect wild biodiversity in agroecosystems on Lopez Island; and
- Experience in carbon-offsetting in Whatcom County at Inspiration Farm, which is initiating innovative research and farm practices.
